Topic: Anti-anginal drugs
Antianginal drugs are used to provide immediate relief from symptoms and prevent angina attacks.
Classification of Anti-anginal drugs:
A. Vasodilator:
1. Nitrates:
a) Short duration: Glyceryl trinitrate (GTN, Nitroglycerine)
b) Intermediate duration: Oral Nitroglycerine
c) Long duration: Isosorbide dinitrate (short acting by sublingual route), Isosorbide,
mononitrate, Erythrityl tetranitrate, Pentaerythritol tetranitrate
2. Calcium Channel Blocker:
a) Phenyl alkylamine: Verapamil
b) Benzothiazepine: Diltiazem
c) Dihydropyridines: Nifedipine, Felodipine, Amlodipine, Nitrendipine, Nimodipine,
Lacidipine, Lercanidipine, Benidipine
B. Cardiac depressant:
1. Calcium Channel Blocker:
2. Beta Blocker: Propranolol, Metoprolol, Atenolol and others.
C. Potassium channel opener: Nicorandil
D. Other Drugs: Dipyridamole, Trimetazidine, Ranolazine, Ivabradine, Oxyphedrine
