Topic: Anti-tussive agents

Antitussives are prescription or over-the-counter drugs used for suppressing cough. Antitussives act on the cough center in the brain. 

 Classification of drugs:

1. Opioids: Codeine, Ethyl morphine, Pholcodine

2. Nonopioids: Noscapine, Dextromethorphan, Chlophedianol

3. Antihistamines: Chlorpheniramine, Diphenhydramine, Promethazine

4. Peripherally acting: Prenoxdiazine

5. Adjuvant antitussives/ Bronchodilators: Salbutamol, Terbutalin
