Topic: Anti-diarrheal drugs

Any drug that relieves symptoms of diarrhea (the frequent passage of a watery loose stool).

 Classification of drugs:

1. Non- antimicrobial anti diahrrhoeals:

a) Antimotility agents: diphenoxylate, loperamide, codeine.

b) Anticholinergic agents: atropine, scopolamine

2. Specific anti- infective agents:

a) Antimicrobials: Co-trimaxozole, norfloxacin, doxycycline, erythromycin, metronidazole

b) Antisecretary agents: sulfasalazine, mesalazine
