Ch-3.3 D. Pharm Pharmacology

Topic: Drugs used in Glaucoma

Antiglaucoma drugs form the basis of medical management of glaucoma. These drugs are pharmacological agents which reduce the intra-ocular pressure either by reducing aqueous humor production or by increasing the outflow of this fluid from the intra-ocular compartments.

There are four major types of glaucoma:

1. Open-angle glaucoma.

2. Angle-closure glaucoma, also called closed-angle glaucoma.

3. Congenital glaucoma.

4. Secondary glaucoma.
